The University of Technology, Mauritius (UTM) is a public tertiary institution created in 2000 by an Act of Parliament and has a population of around 4000 students. It is situated next to the heart of the capital city of Mauritius. With a new management in place since 2015, strategic directions are being put in place to help UTM develop into an institution of excellence with a regional and international dimension. We aim to ‘Train for Sustainable Development and Employability’ and put ‘Technology at the Service of Society’ through our teaching as well as research and development with local and international collaborators including very close ties with industry. UTM has been awarded the Africa Education Leadership Award 2016.

The UTM has four Schools, namely the School of Innovative Technologies and Engineering, the School of Business Management and Finance, the School of Sustainable Development and Tourism and the newly created School of Health Sciences set up in October 2015 with two affiliated medical colleges, and links with prestigious Universities like Imperial College London and the Banaras Hindu University, India.

Regulations are being reviewed to enhance the quality and flexibility of learning, increase retention of students and recognize prior and experiential learning. To boost capacity building in research, our fees for MPhil/PhD studies have been reduced to an average of MUR 50,000,/- per year, inclusive of one overseas attachment.
