Located approximately 22 kilometer from Malaysia’s capital city, Kuala Lumpur, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is one of the five designated Research Universities (RU) in Malaysia which is deeply committed to offering excellence in education and discovering new knowledge through study and research.

Established in 1931, UPM is known internationally as one of the more renowned universities in this region, with its broad ranging academic disciplines include Engineering Agriculture, Forestry, Veterinary Medicine, Medicine And Health Sciences, Economics & Management, Engineering, Educational Studies, Food Science And Technology, Human Ecology, Modern Language And Communication, Architecture And Design, Computer Science And Information Technology, Biotechnology And Bimolecular Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Agriculture And Food Sciences.

A multi-disciplinary university with a 85-year-old history, UPM boasts a record of having more than 26,000 students who have completed 78 bachelor, 7 diploma and 45 postgraduate study programs at the Master and PhD levels in more than 250 areas of specialization.

Except for the diploma programs which are offered exclusively at UPM’s branch campus in Bintulu, Sarawak, all other courses are offered at its main campus in Serdang, Selangor. UPM’s agriculture-based research is known for the focus placed on current and pressing issues such as production, processing, biotechnology, green technology, sustainable resource management, port-harvest losses, food safety and traceability.

In UPM’s Strategic Plan 2014-2020 launched in 2015, a dedicated action plan for agriculture is one of the thrusts which will see the university embarking on strengthening its agricultural academic programs as well as research activities.

UPM has gained numerous worldwide recognition. It was listed as the world’s Top 17 university by UI_Greenmetric World University Ranking 2015 based on its constant effort to promote campus sustainability and effective environmental management, and was ranked the 49th best university in Asia by QS Asia University Ranking 2016, and its Agricultural Sciences subject was ranked 45 in the world’s subject rankings by Best Global Universities Ranking, U.S.News & World Report 2015.
