Tarakanita School of Communication and Secretarial Studies (STIKS Tarakanita) is a Catholic educational institute founded in 1968 in Jakarta, Indonesia. STIKS Tarakanita with its new brand STARKI is an extension of the vital mission work of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Charles Borromeo.
Though small, STIKS Tarakanita makes a big contribution to Indonesian society. Seeing that education inequality leads to marginalisation in society, the Sisters of Charity of St. Charles Borromeo founded STIKS Tarakanita to empower young Indonesian women. The Sisters chose secretarial studies as the institute’s focus, as it presented the strongest employment opportunity for women at the time.
Today, STIKS Tarakanita provides two study programs: Communication Science and Secretarial Studies. Graduates are prepared for roles as secretaries, business analysts, and public relations officers, among many others.
STIKS Tarakanita equips its students with the skills and values needed to meet local and global workplace challenges. Through extra-curricular activities and internship programs, students gain first-hand experience of real work. Tarakanita’s network of over 700 companies almost ensures jobs for graduates. The Tarakanita name carries an association of strong skills and good character. Students are often already employed by graduation.
STIKS Tarakanita is prepared for the opportunities of internationalisation. Training in communication, interpersonal, and intercultural skills prepares students for the international workplace. STIKS Tarakanita is continually introducing new partnerships with institutions in the Philippines, Singapore, Canada, and Australia. These are the foundations for student exchange programs, providing young Indonesian women with the eye-opening experiences of an international education.
“Education is a process. A process to create a good person.”
-Sr. F. Dwina Arintowati, CB Director of Tarakanita School of Communication and Secretarial Studies
